The Milwaukee County Historical Society was founded in 1935 to collect, preserve and make available materials relating to the history of the Milwaukee community. Through a broad range of activities, the Historical Society seeks to promote a greater appreciation of the Milwaukee community's rich heritage. We strive to inspire and illuminate the relevance of our local history to our lives today. The Historical Society serves a variety of individuals and groups each year through our Research Library, Collections, Exhibitions, Outreach programs, preservation, publications and our historic properties.

Private support is increasingly necessary to ensure the work of the Historical Society. While the Historical Society is supported by Milwaukee County, government support provides only a small percentage of our annual expenses. Your gift does make a difference.
